English-speaking Translator (native speaker)

The position and tasks

One full-time position will be offered to an English-language translator. Candidates should be passionate about their profession, curious, and want to see their projects completed successfully. They should produce translations that respect the meaning of the original source text, and that are not literal. Candidates will also have a strong sense of terminology research, and editing in English.

Translation of both short and long texts

In-depth knowledge of Canadian English, grammar, syntax, etc.

Ability to work comfortably at a pace of 1500 to 1800 words a day

Adaptation to both author styles and readers

Ability to work alone, as a team member, and under pressure

Ability to meet tight deadlines

Terminology research

Attention to detail

Use of available translation memory tools

Prerequisites

Three years of experience in a translation environment where your texts were edited, an asset

Experience with a variety of different texts: general, specialized, AND technical

Confirmed computer skills in a Windows environment

Excellent knowledge of the source language: French

Excellent writing and editing skills

Other criteria

Bachelor’s degree in Translation or equivalent education, mandatory

Experience with translation memory software

Experience with the MS Office suite

In-depth knowledge of another field is an asset

Ability to work under pressure

Ability to juggle various priorities at once

Ability to develop excellent relations with colleagues and clients

Professionalism, open-mindedness, autonomy, conscientiousness, efficiency

Member of OTTIAQ or ATIO (an asset or application to come)
